Hello, my name is Peter Turner and I have recently been re-elected as a Trustee of the Moretonhampstead Development Trust.
Shortly after retiring in 2019, I moved to Moretonhampstead, to be near my daughter and grandchildren, and to start a new life in this beautiful corner of England. I originate from Yorkshire, but my career has not only taken me to live in various parts of the UK but also the Australian Outback.
I started my career as a School Master teaching wood and metal craft, in various senior schools. After my return from Australia in the late seventies, I trained as a Leather Craftsman, and later was asked to open a new European distribution centre in the UK, for the American Tandy Leather Company. I have since owned an interior design, manufacturing and installation company, specializing in kitchen and office furniture. Following this, I joined my nephew in setting up an international virtual reality company, specializing initially in high-end product design, and now transforming sensory experiences in many of the world’s theme parks.
I`ve enjoyed a varied career, enabling the development of a range of skills, which I now wish to contribute to Wellmoor’s new project: Moretonhampstead Community Shed. Inspired by the Men’s Shed Association, it aims to improve wellbeing, reduce loneliness and combat social isolation, by encouraging people to come together to make, repair and repurpose; and through supporting projects in our local community.
